A Better Person • by Rebekah Meier
I have a driven need to create. Collage and mixed-media are my mediums of choice but I also love trying new techniques and other mediums. Sometimes life's ups and downs try to get in the way of my creative process. However, the need to create and express myself through my art is much stronger and has gotten me through those tough times. I cannot imagine not creating; the creative process is comfort and helps me to overcome my fears.Kitchen Closet to Basement Studio
I literally started my creative business from my kitchen table. Everything had to fit into my kitchen closet. All supplies and projects would have to be packed up when the dinner table needed to be set. I would haul it back out and work well into the night after my kids went to bed. At that point in time I mainly worked with fabrics. As my work progressed I found that I gained more confidence knowing that others liked my work and bought what I created. Each step led to another, and learning from each step made me a better artist. A step backward occurred for a couple years where I thought I had enough creating and chose to work in an entirely different field. Those years made me realize that I needed my art, and that it completed whom I really am. My work can be hectic but art saves me everyday and makes me a better person.
