Art: My Sanctuary • by Catherine Moore

For me, it’s a walk along the shore or upon the forest floor. It’s a quiet place where I can reflect and find my peace. I don’t have a beach in my backyard any longer, but I do live under a most delicious song-filled canopy of leaves, twigs, branches, and industrious little creatures. And, if I am still, if I am very quiet and observe I find inspiration in all those wondrous things. That’s how art saved me. It is all of that and more. Art is my sanctuary. It helps me to turn down the volume in this world and presents the magic carpet into new worlds. New worlds where I can develop idealized societies of women who serve as teapots in a pinch. Where a skirt is a luscious garment adorned with love letters, a niche for a toy theatre, or a rambling bird cage. Where a shoe can be a marvelous fashion accessory, as well as the magical coach I drive to the costumed ball.
And as if the adventure itself was not enough of a reward, the absolute cherry on top has been the special relationships forged with my art sisters and kindred hearts who share this same visual language.
