My Love for Art • by Geninne Zlotkis
Hello! My name is Geninne. I am an artist, illustrator, and graphic designer, living in the beautiful colonial city of Queretaro in Mexico with my husband, Manolo, our two very creative boys, and a cute border collie named Turbo. I was born in New York, but shortly after my parents began traveling around South America, where I lived in seven different countries and went to several English-speaking schools.
Simple & Creative Life
My love for arts and crafts began at a very early age. My mom says I started drawing when I was 2 years old and it continued to be my favorite activity through my childhood and teenage years. By the time I decided what to study in college I was 100 percent sure it had to be in the visual arts. I studied architecture in Chile for a couple of years before graduating as a graphic artist in Mexico. I’m interested in enjoying what I love and having fun doing it. My career developed as a result of my love for art and my ability to express myself through art. Albert Einstein once said, “The monotony and solitude of a quiet life stimulates the creative mind.” I strive to keep it simple every day.
The Driving Force
I work in a variety of media, including watercolor, ink, and pencil. I love to sew, embroider, hand carve rubber stamps and sell prints of my watercolors at my online Etsy shop (geninne.etsy.com). I love birds, flowers, and have been taking photos since I was 15 years old. My inspiration comes primarily from nature; it is the driving force of my work. I never took a watercolor class, which I think helped me develop my own style of painting.
