When Words Fail, Art Saves • by Tammy Tutterow
When heartbreak shakes me, when unspeakable joy radiates through me, I often find that words fail to truly illustrate what is stirring in my soul. When I need to express the feelings that words can’t speak, I reach for my art supplies, and through color and texture, images and dirty fingers, I manage to give life to those feelings that I can’t share otherwise.
I have found that no matter what my emotion, what issues or joys I am dealing with in life at the time, turning to creativity gives my mind and spirit freedom. When I can’t or won’t find the words, art gives me the freedom to spill my emotions onto paper. Art has given me a shoulder to cry on and a high five in joy. Art allows me to tell my story when I can’t find the words or say it aloud. Art saves.

Tammy,
I love your page, but even more I love your story. I have had a challenging year and in the midst of it discovered art journaling. It certainly has saved me. So often I start in a dark place; but, as I add paint, ink, and paper to the page, I find that there is also light - just as you did with your bluebird and the blue sky. Thanks for sharing your art and your heart.
