PRACTICE

When I was young, I used to hate practicing my cello. But when after weeks of practice I would master a piece, the pride I felt ... there was nothing like it. And I knew then that practice precedes all good things.

I admire those who practice their craft ... from music to writing to calligraphy to painting to sports and more. Practicing helps us find the spots where we are weak and develop strategies to strengthen those spots.

I admire those who practice because those who practice are disciplined. And those who are disciplined ... well ... they are usually the ones who end up moving mountains.

COME ALONG WITH ME TO :: ARTISTIC AFFAIRE LES SIRENES

If you don't know about the gorgeous art events that Kim Caldwell puts on, I think you ought to come along with me this July to experience firsthand, the magic she creates. Kim is one of the hardest working women in the creative industry, where she puts on events so that each attendee and each instructor has a marvelous time.

This July, she is hosting Artistic Affaire Les Sirenes in Manhattan Beach where attendees will learn art projects from instructors: Jenny Hernandez, Julie Haymaker, Melissa Phillips and Holly Stinnett.

I'm honored to be serving as Guest Speaker, and will work hard to prepare a unique message that will help tie a big bow of optimism and passion around the entire event. I hope you'll come along with me, Kim, Jenny, Julie, Melissa and Holly for Artistic Affaire Les Sirenes

POWERFUL STORIES WILL BE TOLD

Says Melody Ross: "I also know that when you make art with this kind of passion and desperate need to be wholly alive, that others can feel that passion in your art ... and your art will go on to save others."

Says Suzi Blu: "I tell you my story not for sympathy, but to prove there is a way back ..."

Save the Date FINAL

STERLING HAMMERED JEWELRY

I love words. And I love it when very few words make a huge impact. Like ART SAVES.

IMG_7258

And I'm so thrilled that these simple words are now on sterling silver hammered jewelry designed exclusively for CRESCENDOh available here.

IMG_7261

And an oval that says "MAKE IT NEW" ... some of my favorite words from my all-time poem by Confucius who said:

As the sun makes it new

Day by day make it new

Yet again make it new

IMG_7265

And the words "LOVE GIVES" in honor of Rebecca Sower who brought to our attention the quote from Mother Teresa who once said, "You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving."

IMG_9822
And my favorite word of all: BEGIN.

Because no matter how difficult, no matter how daunting something seems, the answer is always to begin.

WORDS IN MOUTH

TENFOLD

Wishes for success and happiness are what talented and ever-humble artist Linda Warlyn sends my way ...

IMG_9701

Wishes that accompany the cutest little red shoes on a red-white-black-kraft palette that I love. How does she know what I love?

IMG_9702
It's what I keep asking myself as I discover other accompanying gestures of friendship and love ...

IMG_9706

... including of course the iconic prince who has helped lead the way for me as I seek to follow my heart.

IMG_9708

Well of course Linda would know ... because she knows what I know and what The Little Prince knows ... which is that by putting your heart out there, you get it back tenfold ... and it is only with the heart that we see clearly.

Blessed am I.

PAY IT FORWARD WITH CRESCENOh

Meet Tracy Schultz. Optimist. Artist. Design Team Member. Mother. Good listener.

Last month, Tracy helped us launch our monthly eNewsletter (Editor's Letter) by sharing a "Pay it Forward" idea for our readers. Watch the video here.

TracyThis inspiring video now helps us launch CRESCENDOh's Pay it Forward department — dedicated to collecting and sharing ideas, videos, essays, artwork, etc., from our community, on how we can move forward in our daily lives to make a positive difference in the world.

We are also interested in collecting stories of how we become changed for the better, when we do something to help others.

Do you have a story? Do you have a tip? Then we would love to hear from you. We'd love to post your Pay it Forward essay, video, photograph, etc. on our site. Please send us an email at mailbox@crescendoh.com.

OK, NOW WHAT?

The CRESCENDOh team had a get-together tonight to start prepping a few things for our upcoming launch party. We started off the night all admiring this great new piece (with artwork by Danita) that we've developed to reveal at the party ... a card that contains some terrific Pay Forward Prompts that we can use every day, to make a difference in the world. (The Pay Forward facet of CRESCENDOh is something that we will invite all of the CRESCENDOh community to help us build in the weeks and months ahead. More on this later.)

IMG_9677
The card will be one of many wonderful things (including Mod Podge) that will fill our goody bags to be given to each attendee ...

IMG_9682
... and the goody bags will also contain CRESCENDOh's craft snack of choice: Nestle's Butterfinger

IMG_9683
As volunteers at the goody bag station were hard at work, we had another station of volunteers prepping the components that will make up the best name tags for each attendees.

IMG_9685Metal rectangles with the word CRESCENDOH created by metal letter stamps by Melody Ross for GCD Studios. Wait til you see the finished tags. They will knock your socks off.

IMG_9687And at another station, we had volunteers separating curly willow ...

IMG_9698
And then spray painting them black. For what? you'll see at the party.

IMG_9696
And finally, there was the station made up of the best teenaged girls on the planet: Andrea, Monica and Cecilia, who worked hard to get all of our ART SAVES merchandise prepped and ready ... the only items we will have for sale during the party, with all proceeds going to charity.

IMG_9690
It was a great night. One or two more of these work parties and we'll be all set. Will you be joining us? Then you'll need to RSVP here no later than May 10th, at which time all RSVPs will be closing.

And I am proud to announce that there will be two very special speakers during the evening: Melody Ross and Suzi Blu

ACT LOUDER

Wise words by Ralph Waldo Emerson remind me that I want to act louder than I speak.

IMG_9414

Because I know that it is through my actions that I can say everything without saying anything

TO BE HAPPY

"I want to be happy, but I can't be happy, til I make you happy too ..."

IMG_7478
I wonder if Toby and Scout will ever really know how happy they make me every single day. And I hope that they feel the same way about me. Because I love them and I want them to be happy. I owe them so much.
