Knitted Dishcloth/Washcloth Tutorial

Didn't I tell you that I felt a whole crop of dischcloths waiting to come out of me? Well, since the dishcloth project I showed you here, I have discoverd that these knitted beauties are not only great for the kitchen but also for the bathroom.

I decided to make these much smaller than the traditional dishcloth by casting on only 20 stitches. Here's how I made the white one below:

  • Cast on 20. Rows 1-4: Knit.
  • Row 5: K.
  • Row 6: K3, P14, K3.
  • Row 7: K.
  • Row 8: K3, P14, K3.
  • Row 9: K3, P14, K3.
  • Row 10: K.
  • Row 11: K3, P14, K3.
  • Row 12: K.
  • Repeat the motif set by rows 5-12 for as many times as you would like then knit a final four rows and bind off.

  • Row 6: K3, P14, K3
  • Row 7: K3, P4, K1, P4, K1, P4, K3
  • Row 8: K7, P1, K4, P1, K7
  • Repeat rows 5-8 for as many times as you'd like and then finish by knitting final 4 rows and bind off.

For the special overnight guest, wrap a soap with sheet music, stack it with the three washcloths and tie it with a strip of ripped fabric ribbon.

I love these Jenny. Last year for Valentine's day my sister made me a red and white knitted dish cloth and it is my favorite to use in the kitchen. Pretty and useful, that is HOT!
