As Seen on A Southern Grace
Chocolate and mint - two classic flavors that become even more special when they're paired. This deceptively simple dessert has alternating layers of chocolate cake and peppermint buttercream specked with crushed candy canes topped with a decadent ganache. Sweet, refreshing, and a little bit unexpected.
Ahhh bunting. What is it about bunting that we all love so much? Here's my latest one I made ...
I started by cutting triangles at the fold of a brown paper bag ...
And then used my trusty Elmer's gluestick to adhere it onto cotton string. Easy peasy. Once you have that done, you can adhere buttons or write sayings like "dream big" or "follow your bliss" ...
... or you can bottom line it with "don't be an ass." Oh yes ... wise and easy-to-understand words that members of our household strive to live by every single day.

Happy Sunday. :)
It was so fun to see my good friend, Sonya Nimri today, as we signed copies of Signature Styles at the one and only Zinnia's in South Pasadena.
Had great fun making new friends ...
And reconnecting with longtime friends ... like the adorable Christine ... who is embarking on some very cool, interesting, and courageous endeavors.
Many thanks to Tamara and her crew for being the perfect hosts today. Zinnia's has many exciting classes lined up in the coming months that I hope you'll check out here on their calendar, including a few very cool ones coming up from my buddy Michael deMeng.
The best part of the day? Being able to hang with my "entourage" ... Gerardo, Monica, and Andrew ... the coolest cats in all of southern California.
Here's my second spread.
To create the background, I mixed white gesso with a tiny drop of black calligraphy ink. Added some graphite pencil work, and a crocheted star I made with a taupe thread.
On these wonderful faces, I added some white pen work, including dotting their eyes ... a fun and somewhat creepy technique I learned from my friend, Lynn Whipple.
Speaking of looking me in the eye, you might recall how I feel about that topic here.
