She Just Kept on Knitting :: Watercolor & Fluid Acrylics Tutorial DIY

One of the greatest things I learned from Pam during her recent workshop is that you can mix watercolors with fluid acrylics to get very cool shades of color. It was one of those aha moments to see Pam mix mediums in this manner. And you know what? Neither the watercolor police nor the acrylic police showed up to give us a citation! So there.

So check it out. Here's a bit of phthalo blue watercolor mixed with titan buff fluid acrylics, and a brush loaded with plain old water. The more water, the more watery and lighter it gets. The effect is like none other. I just love the milky and chalky way it turns out.

So this is the blue I've been adding lately to my Voices series and other random pages ... like this one.

It's a page inspired by a dream I had where I found myself in the company of famous knitters who wouldn't give me the time of day until they saw that I could knit circles around them. And that's when they all wanted to get chummy with me. Rather than telling them to ... er ... um ... "go fly a kite," I just kept on knitting.

Jenny Doh The moral of the dream? Substance always trumps style. So there.

PS: Sorry if I've offended anyone with the f-bomb. I think this is the first time I've used it here. Truth be told ... it's a regular part of my vocabulary. Sorry to disappoint anyone. It's just who I am. So there.

I am INSANE for your journal page, every bit of it! It may well turn up as the foundation for a piece of my own. Wonderful. Just fucking wonderful! ;)

Love it, Jenny! Sentiment is SO true and I, too, am guilty of the fbomb myself! :)

So there. F'in A right Jenny. I still consider myself a lady.

Jenny, you can drop the f-bomb anytime, it's shows your passion, and I love it!
I've been snob for years by my calligraphic community, so I understand the sentiment completely.

I'll excuse your French if you'll excuse mine ;-) Just priceless Jenny. Fucking Fabuleux!!

This definitely grabs one's attention! You grabbed mine ;D I am also known on occasion, to have a few sailor rants myself. Go for it! xXx

Oh, Jenny! I am laughing HARD at this one!! One of my favorite memories of the class is toward the end, all sitting around the little coffee table trying all of Pam's different pens. You were sitting on the floor trying her calligraphy pen with different words beginning with "F". Down the list, I noticed you included the "f-bomb" and I thought it was so, so funny and REAL.
Thanks for the reminder of a wonderful day...

thanks for being real... now back to my knitting...

I am an ex-ER nurse and let me tell you, that word is used like a comma in some situations. You using that word put you in a whole new light in my mind, a beautiful, real light. I think so many people are word snobs and look down their noses at passionate REAL people. Truth be told, I would love to be a fly on the wall when they stubb their toe!

I laughed out loud over this journal page. I agree with everyone else. This just makes you more authentic, Jenny. No apologies needed. BTW - both my mother and I find the word very satisfying, and my mom's 89 years old and one classy gal.

aha!! awesome. this journal page is FABULOUS! jenny, this is what it's all about... i just love that you are so real! i also share the same feeling of just letting it all out frequently... you should see some of the pages in my journals! yes. i too, often drop that f-bomb. who gives a fuck anyway?! LOL
hugs and happy weekend!!

OMG Jenny!! It was THE right wordage to use... I LOVE your honesty! Made me giggle!! Aren't dreams weird though? I think I shall keep a dreams journal if I have any more weird ones! Thanks for sharing - oh and I have always enjoyed your tutorials with some knitting and crochet thrown in!! =D

I found your website thru Pininterest. I loved your blog instantly, so I started going thru all you old posts; and then I found the knitting page. I am an almost 60, mother of 2 grown sons, grandmother to 4 granddaughters. I have been always been described as a dainty, feminine, appropriate lady. I laughed so hard, I almost wet my pants when I saw this page. Although, I hate this word, I would love to express this so many times. So, keeping with my cloak of an image- my code sentence now will be-"i'll keep on knitting" and no one will ever know. My eyes will have an ever so slightly glow. Thanks for making this old lady's day!!
Cindy ;)
