Simple, Humble, Beautiful Jump Rope
I've been going through a transformation lately.
Every morning, I get up and jump rope.
It's the first thing I do before anything else.
Just three 1-minute sets (I'm actually inching up to three 1.5-minute sets.)
As soon as I do the sets, I eat. I don't wait to eat later. I eat right after I jump.
(Usually toast with peanut butter and honey.)
And then of course water throughout the day.
Lately in the afternoon, I find that I crave the rope again so I add another three 1-minute sets. Such a lift in the middle of the day! I also eat a snack right after my afternoon jumping.
This regimen is what my trainer has me on, especially for days when I don't train with him.
When I do train with him, it's some cardio and lots of strength training.
Fitness has always been a core value for me. But for the last several months, I've been searching for a new regimen to get me out of a fitness rut ... to find new motivation and new focus. Who knew this new regimen would involve the humble, simple, beautiful jump rope? A tool available to everyone.
I feel so strong.
My muscles are popping again.
I have more energy.
My back doesn't hurt, even with all the computer work I do.
This is why I have and will always value fitness.

I started running a year ago, but I have all sorts of rules. One is that I don't run in my neighborhood before work for various reasons, but I've been feeling like I need a morning workout routine - short and sweet - to add to my fitness program, and I was thinking about jumping rope in my backyard once the spring comes and it is light in the morning. Your routine is exactly what I was thinking about before even seeing your post. My backyard is private and cozy once the flowers bloom. I actually just stumbled onto your blog tonight, but I think it is validation that a few hoppy moments can be physically, spiritually, and mentally rewarding. Thank you!
