The Thrill of Kickboxing

You may remember that I started kickboxing earlier this year. I'm still in many ways a beginner and as I shared here, I'll never be a true fighter but I love pretending to be one during my workouts.

The bags are what I work on mostly but my favorite thing to do now and then is to train with Coach Tee in the ring. Here's a short video that gives you an idea of how thrilling it really is.

By the end of a session, I'm completely wiped out because with each session, a person burns an average of 800-1000 calories.. This is not surprising, given that in a 3-minute round of professional boxing, boxers throw anywhere from 280 to 480 punches. We students aren't pros but we are pushed to the limit like we are. On the days that I box, I usually start at 6AM and am done with my workout by 7:30AM, depending on what else I mix in, like running or jumping. After I recover and finish a day of work, I can hardly wait for the next day to come when I can box again.

Many thanks to Coach Tee and LA Boxing of Orange, CA, for helping everyone experience success.

Also, a special shout-out to Corey, Alex, and Jose, my other regular boxing instructors who have unique styles of their own. They inspire me and help me discover every single day, just how strong I can be.

One final thing I want to say, which I've said before. If a 40-something non-athletic-type mother of two kids like me can do this, so can you. It's nothing fancy. It's just commitment. And once you do, because everybody can, you'll start eating better. It's just the way it all works. One good thing inspires another good thing.

See you in the ring. :)

So Jana I made Jana watch your video today, and then we both got down on the floor to try those reverse crunch things you do. Holy cow, they are intense. Your workout posts are very inspiring. Keep up the good work.
