The Music Drew Her Out by Melody Nunez

The Music Drew Her Out
by Melody M. Nunez

Featuring Danita & Me Kit

Crescendoh This piece was made with the Danita & Me kit. Begin by turning your canvas over so the back is face up and the white canvas surface is face down. Add color to approximately one inch of the canvas within the frame at the top and bottom. I laid the red color down using chalk, a cotton ball, and a few cotton swabs. I also added red chalk to the wood on the inside of the frame window – the walls that surround the girl.

Next, use 1 3/8” masking tape to cover the stapled canvas. By adding several layers of tape you’ll be able to obscure the staples and make a more neutral surface/frame.

melody nunez Glue sheet music down to the canvas background within the window, using a piece that’s smaller than the window’s opening so that the color you’ve laid down at the top and bottom show. Use some of the remaining sheet music to cut narrow strips, and glue these down to make a frame around the edge of the window’s opening.

danita Color the image of the girl as desired and cut the figure out. I used colored pencils to color her and a small pair of scissors to cut her out. Carefully tuck the girl underneath part of the wooden frame and position her so she appears to be peeking out from around a corner. Attach the girl to the sheet music with Terrifically Tacky Tape or another strong adhesive.

Use a small set of alphabet letters to stamp a phrase along the top and bottom of your creation using StazOn ink or another permanent ink. Affix small black buttons to the four corners of the sheet music frame/window opening. Finish by accenting the outside edge of the front of the piece with metallic rub-ons.
