stamped ATC tutorial

Apply washes of watercolor onto ATC-sized watercolor paper panels.

Stamp image onto the ATCs with brown chalk ink (ColorBox)

HAPPY ACCIDENT NOTE: When I applied the watercolors to the paper panels, there was a slight convexed curling of the paper that happended (like the pink one shown below). I allowed all the papers to dry in that convexed state but the yellow one, I straightened and popped it so that it would have a concave arch while drying. When I did this, the small pool of yellow watercolor at one end started to move toward the center while drying, causing the mottled effect.

stamping tutorial
Stamp images of Alice, Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts, and the bottle onto cardstock using black ink. Carefully cut out each of the images using a pair of sharp scissors. Use watercolor paints to fill in portions of each image as desired. Let dry completely.

Glue each of the figures onto the top 1" (approximately) of a toothpick, allowing the rest of the toothpick to extend beneath the figure. Let dry completely.

stamping tutorial
Cut approximately 18" of yarn or twine for each spool (this may vary depending on the size of spools being used). Apply a small amount of glue to the center of each spool, then wrap the yarn or twine around as desired. Tie to secure, then cut off any excess from the ends. Let dry completely.

stamping tutorial
Insert one of the toothpicks into the hole in the center of each spool, and trim any portion that extends beyond the end of the spool. Pull each toothpick out of the spool, then apply glue to the toothpick. Reinsert the toothpick into the spool so that the glue is in contact with the spool. Set each spool upright to dry.

Use a glue stick to adhere the stamped image onto a clothespin (if you like, prep a clothespin by using a sponge brush to apply a light layer of ivory acrylic paint for a soft wash of color.)  Next, use a toothpick to fill in the heart shape with craft glue and sprinkle some glass glitter onto the glue, and then shake off the excess glitter and let dry.

Stamped-clothespins-tutorialType a special message onto a piece of scrap paper and then cut or hand tear around the message.  Wrap vintage silver thread several times around the rim of an antique salt shaker and knot the ends to secure.  To display, clip the message to the altered clothespin and place it in the salt shaker.

stamped shrinky dink tutorialStep 2 – Color the images with chalk or pastels, you need to use only a very light dusting of chalk

Step 3 – Trim the image

Step 4 – Punch a hole in the top of the image

SC13 Shrinky Dink Pendants 2Step 5 – Hold a heat tool or hair dryer straight above the image and let the heat shrink the plastic. As the plastic shrinks it will curl up. You may need to hold a pencil or craft knife in your other hand to guide the image flat and keep it from folding in on itself completely. It will be very hot, so use caution when shrinking your image.

Step 6 – When the image has shrunk, thread a jump ring though the hole and attach to a chain.
