These embellished dresses make lovely place cards, and would also function beautifully as gift tags. This project is a great way to use some of your bits and pieces – a bit of lace here, and a few rhinestones and scrap cardstock there. There are hundreds of ways to dress up these dresses – here are three:
Begin by stamping the dress images onto cold press watercolor paper with permanent black ink – I used StazOn. Add color to the dresses. I used Caran d’Ache watersoluble crayons and a brush, but you could use watercolors, markers, or colored pencils. If you used a water-based color, let dry completely before proceeding. Trim the stamped piece of watercolor paper to your desired size, and stamp the guest or recipient’s name above the dress.
Grace: Attach a strip of black cardstock along the bottom edge, and affix rhinestones along the bottom edge of the dress so they cover the open dots along the scallop. Color in the sash so it’s a solid black, and affix another rhinestone to the center of the flower at the waist.
Marie: Attach a piece of lace or trim along the bottom edge, and affix rhinestones equal distance apart using an adhesive like Gem-Tac. Color the band at the waist a solid black and attach another rhinestone in the center of the band.
Sara: Attach a strip of black cardstock along the bottom edge, and attach a thinner piece of decorative/patterned paper on top of the cardstock. Color in the bottom striped ruffle of the dress so it’s solid black.
Finish each place card or gift tag by attaching a hanger or point of attachment. For a place card, attach a narrow ribbon loop to the back as I did, if desired. For a gift tag, punch a hole, or set an eyelet along the top edge or in a top corner and thread with ribbon.
