Dresses with Sashes Place Cards by Melody M. Nunez

Dresses with Sashes Place Cards
by Melody M. Nuñez
{Featuring Dresses with Sashes Stamps}

crescendoh These embellished dresses make lovely place cards, and would also function beautifully as gift tags.  This project is a great way to use some of your bits and pieces – a bit of lace here, and a few rhinestones and scrap cardstock there.  There are hundreds of ways to dress up these dresses – here are three:

Begin by stamping the dress images onto cold press watercolor paper with permanent black ink – I used StazOn.  Add color to the dresses.  I used Caran d’Ache watersoluble crayons and a brush, but you could use watercolors, markers, or colored pencils.  If you used a water-based color, let dry completely before proceeding.  Trim the stamped piece of watercolor paper to your desired size, and stamp the guest or recipient’s name above the dress.

crescendoh Grace: Attach a strip of black cardstock along the bottom edge, and affix rhinestones along the bottom edge of the dress so they cover the open dots along the scallop.  Color in the sash so it’s a solid black, and affix another rhinestone to the center of the flower at the waist.

crescendoh Marie: Attach a piece of lace or trim along the bottom edge, and affix rhinestones equal distance apart using an adhesive like Gem-Tac. Color the band at the waist a solid black and attach another rhinestone in the center of the band.

crescendoh Sara: Attach a strip of black cardstock along the bottom edge, and attach a thinner piece of decorative/patterned paper on top of the cardstock.  Color in the bottom striped ruffle of the dress so it’s solid black.

Finish each place card or gift tag by attaching a hanger or point of attachment.  For a place card, attach a narrow ribbon loop to the back as I did, if desired.  For a gift tag, punch a hole, or set an eyelet along the top edge or in a top corner and thread with ribbon.

Three Lovely Dresses • Susan Allan

Three Lovely Dresses

by Susan Allan

{Featuring Dresses with Sashes & Notions Found}

DSC_2917.1jpg
I stamped a dress onto multi-colored, shimmery paper and carefully cut it out, but adding a bit of extra length. Then I used a Martha Stewart lace punch along the bottom of the dress to make a beautiful lacy edge. A piece of frayed muslin was carefully gathered and glued onto the reverse side, making the dress even longer. A pale blue satin ribbon decorates the waist. Heavy watercolor paper was torn and stamped around the edges with one of the Notions Found stamps. Then a collage of muslin and various ribbons was stitched with a sewing machine onto the paper and further embellished with a torn paper flower, broken wooden flower and a pearl-topped dressmaker's pin, pushed into the muslin.

I adhered the watercolor paper to a kraft card base and placed the dress on top with sticky foam pads. The kraft card base was punched in the top right hand corner with a matching corner punch. Other adornments I have used for this project are torn paper sewing patterns, gathered frayed ribbons, pale pink latex paint and gathered strips of torn silk.

TIP: When I am spraying Glimmer Mist onto a project, I spray into a shoe box with a book page in the bottom of the box to catch all of the stray glimmer. Because the book page looks so beautiful, covered with many different colors and all shimmery, I can use it in other projects, such as these dresses.

Stamp dress images onto plain paper. Cut out the dress silhouettes (these will be your templates). Place the templates on top of tea-dyed chenille fabric and then cut around the dress silhouette.

Embellish each dress with embroidery needle and thread. For these, ivory colored thread was used to add French knot detail around the center of the French knot roses. Machine sew vintage trim along bottom of each dress.

IMG_0153

For each base, cut organic batting into a small rectangle. Cut a piece of tea-dyed used dryer sheet into the same size and place this on top of the batting. Sew the two pieces together around the edges. Use pinking shears to trim around the edges of the rectangle.

Type "pretty" and "sassy" onto paper, and then cut around each word and sew it to the batting base. Adhere the dress to the top of the base with craft glue. Create mini hangers with wire. Clip the batting to the wire hanger using mini clothespins.
