Give and Take • by MoMeMa

MoMeMaMy name is MoMeMa, a full time preschool teacher and self-taught artist. Since 1999 during my trimester of my first and only child, I began having unusual symptoms, leg cramps, and muscle weakness. It was hard for me and my family members, especially my marriage. Doctors couldn’t find out what was going on with my body. I had to go through a number of tests, take medications, and endure sleeplessness and emotional stress for over four years.

Unfortuantely, my marriage didn’t last long. I was giving everything I could, but it didn’t help. Thankfully my art was always there to help me cope with this challenge in my life.

Seizures? Now What?
After a painful divorce and moving to my parent’s home, life got more challenging. Life was testing my faith. After battling undiagnosed symptoms for over four years — emotional stress, body weakness, not being able to keep a job, caring for my young daughter’s well being — doctors were finally able to diagnosis me with Muscular Seizure Disorder. I was devastated. Where did that come from? How did this happen? I was a person with no health issues. It was confusing! But I realized I knew what I needed to work on to improve my life and deal with it.

I Take ...
I take every chance I get to create art in any shape or form I can. I began to establish my very own business of Handmade Spa products that lasted for four years, participating in artists contests, group gallery exhibitions, I even created an International Art Community Network such as this one, making art tutorials videos on YouTube and many others. Always reinventing myself and not looking back. I began blooming and I haven’t stopped since.

My Guardian Angels
My daughter and my mother are my guardian angels. My precious daughter is 12-years old; a true inspiration and the driving force that keeps me going. She witnessed all my falls, pains, tears, and laughter and even saved my life once when I had seizure episode.

My dear mother, a two-time cancer survivor, offers constant prayers, encouragement, support, love, and care. She gives all of herself to make sure I can dance too! In fact, sge dedicated the song, I Hope You Dance to me while she was driving me to a doctor's visit one time.

I give thanks every day for having these two guardian angels in my life that will always be a major inspiration in my art making. I love them both very much.

I Take ...
Now, I take time to forgive, love myself, to do what I love, to enjoy the best things in life, to pray for myself and others in my life, and to see that there is a purpose for everything.

I Give ...
I give a little of myself to every person I meet, and love to my family members and friends. I take time for things to settle in. I give to be inspired and to inspire others. Art making has always been part of me, it defines whom I am, where I came from and what I want in life. I love to share my artwork with others. My illness is not more powerful than my values, passions and emotions.

I Take
I take with ease and positive outlook on challenges that come my way. I take risks on things just to give it a try, I take advantages of all media to show off my given talents and share my love and passion for art with others.

Today, I still battling ongoing seizures, more tests and trying out new medications. I have good days and bad days. I’ve been a full time preschool teacher for over 10 years now, I’m parenting and caring for my child and blessed to have two hands and a functional brain that helps me cope with anything through creating art.

Nice to meet you Ellen,
Thank you so much for your kindness and encouraging words. Hope you keep in touch, I'm following you too!!! ;-)))
Keep inspiring others,

MoMeMa, your story also gives me hope. Sometimes it's so very hard to carry on but you do and in such a loving and generous way. I fail so often and in many ways because of overwhelming fatigue; somedays i can hardly get up but you inspire me to try harder and to keep on keeping on. I feel so proud of you, for what you've done and for what you're doing. Thank you so much for sharing your art and yourself.

MoMema, you are inspiring. I am kind of taking the same path as you are. I want to my art to define me because it is what I want to do with my life. I am self teaching and taking a few online classes. Keep the fire burning and continue inspiring people.

Thank you so much for all your supportive thoughts. I'm still going thru several testings to find out the roots of my symptoms. I know I am in good hands. As long as I can be inspired and inspire others with art I know I'll be fine.
Big Hugs,
