Review by Jenny Doh
"Dusty Diablos" is English and Spanish mixed together to say "Dusty Devils." What could a book with such a title hold? Devils? Dusty ones?
It actually holds a unique blend of fascinating discoveries that artist Michael deMeng makes as he explores his passion for Mexican culture, and as he creates works that reflect this passion. So it's a book where you learn about the interesting origins of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), while gaining knowledge of very cool techniques (like burning transparencies) to build assemblages in deMeng style.
Another word in Spanish that I really like is "verdad." In English, it means "truth." Better than "verdad" is the word "verdadero" which means "true" or "real" or "authentic." From the first page to the last, Michael has written a book that is in a word ... verdadero.
Adelante con Dusty Diablos.
