BOOK :: The Welfare of Children • Duncan Lindsey
Oxford University Press
Review by Jenny Doh
The Welfare of Children is one of the most respected research-based books within the field of public child welfare. Duncan Lindsay helps us contextualize the current system of the way in which our residual approach to intervening in the troubled lives of children and families has evolved within our nation. He makes an audacious argument for a different approach — one where the most egregious cases be turned over to law enforcement, and for an investment of dollars to be made earlier to support families in order to prevent maltreatment of children.
It is a fascinating book that is backed up with solid research from one of the leading academics in the field. It is a book that forces us to examine the way our children are treated within the public child welfare arena, and most importantly, how we could better treat them. Learn more here.
